A commonly asked question by clients is how many counselling sessions they will need.
Each person is unique and will present to counselling with vastly different concerns, issues, life experiences and priorities. Therefore, there is no pre-determined number of counselling sessions that will suit everyone’s needs.
Being guided by your personal circumstances and increasing self awareness, session progress is discussed supportively at each appointment.
Counselling aims to improve your ability to move forward with new skills and strategies. Attending counselling may therefore assist your ongoing decision making processes. Well established habits or issues can be hard to shake. So, thinking that you can attend one session and experience a quick fix to move forward from an issue is likely to be unrealistic. Focusing on your strengths to support new possibilities, and conscientiously working on your goals in between counselling appointments, will encourage you on your self help journey. Could aiming for progress rather than perfection be helpful?

“Self care is not selfish or self indulgent. We cannot nurture others from a dry well. We need to take care of our own needs first, then we can give from our surplus, our abundance.” Jennifer Louden
