Gratitude (23-05-17)

When was the last time you displayed genuine gratitude?

Acknowledging what is good in our lives, whilst not disregarding challenges, is a strength. Gratitude has the capacity to improve your overall satisfaction with life. For instance, some of these benefits, listed in this Psychology Today article posted April 3 2015 include improving our physical and psychological health. Happier also describes how gratitude can improve your life. Showing and experiencing thankfulness, whilst working in conjunction with our challenges, can offer much needed hope.

First, acknowledge something that you are grateful for.  Now, focus on something that you are jealous, angry or resentful about. In comparison, how do these two scenarios make you think, feel and behave? Subsequently, try to increase the amount of time you spend each day engaged in positive thoughts and emotions. Doing this may enhance your ability to experience potential benefits.

With continued effort, the practice of searching for reasons to show gratitude, may encourage you to see new ways of addressing difficult situations. As you go about your day today, pay attention for two things that you can be grateful for. How can you show appreciation for these two things?

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” William Arthur Ward
