Supporting Change (24-7-17)

In recognizing that you have become stuck with a situation, it can be challenging to know how to create opportunities that support change.

According to Steve Maraboli, “Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don’t.”

Being able to broaden your existing ways of thinking can be helpful when at crossroads. Doing things with the support of a non-judgmental counsellor, could be an active step towards exploring and maintaining personal growth. Increasing your self awareness and remaining open to new experiences may help you examine and shift fixed, unhelpful ways of being.

Taking small steps forward may allow you to adjust the question ‘Can I?’ to ‘How can I?’….

So how might counselling help… If you have the opportunity to positively build upon who you are today, could that be a worthwhile experience? The process of counselling aims to improve your overall sense of well being. At times during this process you may find that sharing sensitive and personal information can be confronting, upsetting and draining. Counselling can also be uplifting, enlightening and empowering; drawing upon your personal strengths and unique qualities. There are many thoughts, feelings and emotions, both positive and challenging, that people experience during their sessions. Being able to work through these difficult appointments with the support of your counsellor is important. Furthermore, if you are able to persevere through this process, the benefits of your hard work in-between sessions can be personally rewarding.
